On the morning of December 13, 2025, a delegation from Kuala Lumpur Wellness City Sdn Bhd, Malaysia, visited Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital for special exchanges on the construction and operation of intelligent pharmacies. Led by Managing Director DATO’ DR COLIN LEE, the delegation consisted of management staff from hospital administration and information technology sectors.
Integrating three major investment sectors including tourism, medical care and real estate, Kuala Lumpur Wellness City is Southeast Asia’s first comprehensive park integrating medical and wellness services. Its vision is to build an ecosystem featuring outstanding medical treatment, preventive healthcare, healthy aging, rehabilitation therapy and healthy lifestyles. The park’s flagship project, Kuala Lumpur International Hospital, is positioned as a Class A tertiary international hospital. Centered on cutting-edge medical technologies, clinical innovation and patient-oriented service philosophy, it is committed to delivering high-quality medical services for local residents and international tourists. This visit aims to learn advanced concepts of modern pharmacy construction to support the establishment of its new international hospital.
Accompanied by Zhang Jinhua, Director of the Pharmacy Department, and Wu Xiaopeng, Group Leader of the Outpatient Pharmacy, the delegation inspected the full operation workflow of the hospital’s intelligent pharmacy on site. Our hospital’s intelligent pharmacy adopts an integrated model of drug storage and dispensing, featuring dense automated storage equipment with large inventory capacity that automatically replenishes medicines once stock hits the preset minimum threshold. After patients’ prescriptions are scanned by the system, automated pharmacy equipment dispenses medicines accurately in real time, which are then automatically transported to corresponding dispensing windows via an intelligent conveying system. The whole process can be completed within several seconds at the fastest. This highly efficient workflow greatly shortens patients’ waiting time for medicine collection and reduces human errors in manual links.
In addition, the intelligent pharmacy system is fully interconnected with the hospital information system, enabling informatized management covering prescription review, drug dispensing, inventory control, expiry date monitoring, drug traceability and temperature & humidity regulation. Closed-loop management is realized throughout all procedures to guarantee accurate medication and safe, effective drug use for patients.
The visit of this international team not only recognizes the achievements of our hospital’s intelligent pharmacy development, but also lays a solid foundation for follow-up exchanges and cooperation between both sides in fields such as medical quality management and hospital digital intelligent construction.
