Urticaria gets its name because its skin lesions resemble the skin reaction caused by touching stinging nettle. It is commonly known as "wheals" among the public. Treatment and Care
Try to eliminate suspected triggers: avoid contact with identified allergens and refrain from taking medications that trigger allergic reactions.
Steer clear of aggravating factors: do not bathe in overly hot water, as heat intensifies rash and itching; wear loose clothing without tight straps and avoid fastening belts too tightly; refrain from scratching the itchy areas and cut out alcohol.
Pharmacological Treatment
Oral antihistamines are the primary medication for all types of urticaria. They can control symptoms for most patients and rapidly suppress the formation of wheals. However, antihistamines carry various side effects, so varieties with mild side effects are preferred.
For workers operating at heights and vehicle drivers in particular, non-sedating antihistamines must be selected to prevent safety hazards.
