The General Practice Dept of Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital was launched in April 2018, with its general practice clinic officially opened on May 19 the same year. As a key clinical specialty of the hospital, it integrates medical care, teaching and scientific research. A general ward was put into use in May 2019. Later, due to pandemic prevention and control requirements, the department adjusted to regular outpatient services. Currently, it serves more than 8,000 outpatient visits annually. It has built a primary medical service network covering 26 community healthcare centers in the jurisdiction, delivering full-cycle health management services to local residents.
The department has a medical team of 3 staff members, including 2 senior professional title holders and 1 intermediate title holder. Supported by the General Practice team led by Professor Fang Lizheng from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, the team of Professor Lu Zuxun from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Wang Yanping from Hongqi Hospital Affiliated to Mudanjiang Medical University, all core backbones boast years of experience in clinical diagnosis and primary healthcare guidance.
Its diagnosis and treatment scope covers four core areas:
1. Integrated management of multiple coexisting chronic diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);
2. Initial diagnosis and differentiation of undifferentiated illnesses including fever of unknown origin, headache and edema;
3. Standardized treatment of common and frequently-occurring diseases such as community-acquired pneumonia and upper respiratory tract infections;
4. Follow-up rehabilitation management of chronic health conditions for patients discharged from specialized departments.
Equipped with a general practice diagnostic system, ambulatory blood pressure monitors and portable spirometers, the department has established a hospital-community telemedicine platform to realize real-time sharing of health data and efficient two-way referral coordination.
In terms of research and teaching, the department is a municipal standardized training base for general practitioners, having cultivated 8 qualified general practitioners to date. Adopting a holistic patient management model of "one individual, one exclusive health file", it provides integrated services including health education, medication guidance and regular follow-up, with patient satisfaction consistently maintained above 95%.
In the future, the department will take the reopening of the general ward as its core objective, and focus on improving three major systems for the treatment of multiple comorbidities, identification of undifferentiated diseases and long-term chronic disease management, striving to build a benchmark general practice specialty in the region and offer more continuous and convenient medical services for residents.
