Approved and established by Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission on November 24, 2020, Nephrology Dept of Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital started from scratch. The department now has 5 specialized nephrologists, including 1 Chief Physician, 1 Senior Attending Physician and 3 Resident Physicians, all holding master’s degrees or above. It has cultivated 11 specialized nurses for blood purification and 1 medical engineer.
The department consists of a Nephrology Clinic, a Blood Purification Clinic and a Nephrology Ward. Its annual outpatient volume reaches 7,600 visits for general nephrology and 11,000 visits for blood purification. It diagnoses and treats primary and secondary glomerular diseases (such as lupus nephritis, vasculopathy-induced renal injury, diabetic nephropathy, gouty nephropathy and hypertensive renal damage), acute and chronic renal insufficiency, nephrotic syndrome and other renal disorders. Surgical procedures carried out here include renal biopsy, autologous arteriovenous fistula creation and repair, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and central venous catheter implantation. The department boasts expertise in various blood purification modalities.

Teaching & Research
The department undertakes multi-channel clinical teaching tasks for Maoming Vocational and Technical College of Health, Guangdong Pharmaceutical University and general practitioner transfer training programs. One faculty member serves as an off-campus supervisor for master students at Guangdong Pharmaceutical University.
Over the past five years, the department has undertaken 2 municipal general research projects and 2 district-level research projects. Its staff have published 5 SCI papers as first, co-first or corresponding authors, as well as 1 paper in national double-core statistical journals.
