Cardiology Dept of Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital is one of the earliest established cardiovascular wards in western Bao'an. It is a hospital-level key discipline integrating clinical care, scientific research, teaching and cardiac rehabilitation. The department boasts remarkable strengths and extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of critical cardiovascular illnesses, hypertension, angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, chronic pulmonary heart disease and arrhythmia. Designated as a designated medical institution for acute myocardial infarction treatment by Shenzhen in 2020, it has obtained the National Standard Chest Pain Center Certification and national GCP qualification, and serves as a member unit of professional specialty alliances. The department receives over 30,000 outpatient visits and performs more than 1,000 interventional procedures annually. It has set a record of recanalizing occluded blood vessels for myocardial infarction patients within 17 minutes, effectively lifting the rescue success rate and long-term quality of life for patients with chest pain and myocardial infarction.

The department consists of four functional zones: general cardiology ward, Coronary Care Unit (CC), cardiology clinic and cardiac rehabilitation unit. It has a total of 34 medical and nursing staff, including 10 physicians: 3 Associate Chief Physicians, 5 Attending Physicians and 4 postgraduates. The department is equipped with non-invasive and invasive ventilators, defibrillators, multi-parameter monitors, temporary pacemakers, 12-lead electrocardiographs, external counterpulsation devices, non-invasive hemodynamic monitors and complete cardiac rehabilitation facilities. Supported by auxiliary medical departments, the hospital also provides MRI, high-resolution spiral CT, color Doppler ultrasound, 24-hour Holter ambulatory ECG, ambulatory blood pressure monitors and exercise stress treadmills, fully guaranteeing the department’s clinical work.

There are 40 inpatient beds in total, including 7 CCU beds. In 2022, the department recorded 35,000 outpatient visits and 1,659 discharged patients. Major treated diseases cover hypertension, coronary heart disease, unstable angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and arrhythmia. Available clinical services include integrated cardiac rehabilitation, external counterpulsation therapy, non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, thromboelastography, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, Holter ECG monitoring and bedside myocardial biomarker testing.

Leading the construction of the Chest Pain Center of Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital, the cardiac catheterization laboratory was put into operation in March 2020 and carries out around 1,000 interventional surgeries every year. Available interventional treatments include coronary interventions such as coronary angiography, coronary stent implantation, intracoronary thrombolysis and coronary balloon angioplasty; arrhythmia interventions including radiofrequency ablation, temporary and permanent pacemaker implantation; as well as interventional therapy for congenital heart diseases, delivering faster and more convenient medical services for local residents.
