The Ultrasound Room of Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital has a 14-year history. Upholding the medical ethos of "pursuing excellence, staying pragmatic, working diligently and dedicating wholeheartedly", the team led by Director Mi Junlin maintains a proactive work attitude, delivers warm services and works down-to-earth, striving to build an integrated specialty integrating clinical services, teaching, scientific research and professional training. The room is mainly responsible for ultrasound imaging diagnosis and treatment for all clinical departments of the hospital.
A standardized equal and mutually supportive management model has been implemented, forming a sound talent echelon divided into four specialized groups: Abdominal & Superficial Small Organ Group, Cardiovascular Group, Obstetrics & Gynecology Group, and Musculoskeletal & Interventional Ultrasound Group.
The Ultrasound Room has a total of 27 medical staff, including 25 physicians and 2 assistants; 96% hold bachelor’s degrees or above, and 34% possess intermediate or higher professional titles. The room attaches great importance to basic theoretical knowledge and talent team development, focusing on improving staff’s routine diagnostic capabilities, and serves as an indispensable core component of the hospital’s overall development.
Keeping pace with cutting-edge domestic and international ultrasound technologies, the room operates around 18 ultrasound examination rooms equipped with 18 ultrasound diagnostic systems, including high-end color Doppler ultrasound machines from GE, PHILIPS, SIEMENS and other renowned brands.
Routine color Doppler examinations cover the heart, great vessels and peripheral blood vessels, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen, kidneys, ureters and bladder, uterus, bilateral ovaries and adnexa, prostate, seminal vesicles, scrotum, testes, epididymides and spermatic cords, breasts and thyroid glands, abdominal and thoracic cavities, fetuses and fetal appendages, as well as superficial soft tissues. New services including ultrasound-guided puncture biopsy, thyroid contrast-enhanced ultrasound and liver contrast-enhanced ultrasound are also available: ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy for breast masses, ultrasound-guided puncture for complicated pleural effusion (in cooperation with the Respiratory Medicine Dept), ultrasound-guided amniocentesis for pregnancy termination (in cooperation with the Gynecology Dept), ultrasound localization of catheter tip for neonatal umbilical vein catheterization (in cooperation with the Neonatology Dept), ultrasound-guided small needle-knife therapy for stenosing tenosynovitis (in cooperation with Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine Depts), ultrasound-guided nephrostomy and interventional treatment for renal cysts (in cooperation with the Urology Dept).
The room completes 750 to 950 ultrasound examinations daily, excluding physical examination scans. It undertakes all fetal prenatal ultrasound screening work for the hospital, with approximately 18,000 prenatal scans conducted each year. Through continuous learning and experience accumulation, the team has rich expertise in prenatal ultrasound diagnosis of fetal cardiovascular, nervous, digestive and genital malformations.
In compliance with hospital regulations, the room continuously optimizes core medical management systems and quality control frameworks to upgrade diagnostic standards and safeguard patient safety. Active communication and collaborative progress are maintained with all other clinical disciplines.
To support the launch of new hemodynamic ultrasound technologies and services, talent cultivation is prioritized. More than one hundred classic and cutting-edge professional reference books on ultrasound are collected to lay a solid theoretical foundation for disciplinary development and staff learning. In 2018, staff published 11 academic papers and obtained 2 district-level research projects. Case seminars are held twice monthly to integrate theory and clinical practice, comprehensively elevating overall diagnostic capacity. Scientific research output is steadily improving, with strengthened cooperation with other hospitals across Shenzhen to lay a solid foundation for disciplinary construction.
