Founded in January 2016, the Blood Transfusion Dept of Shenzhen Bao'an District Songgang People's Hospital covers an area of over 100 square meters with a team of 6 full-time staff. In terms of professional titles, there is 1 senior title holder, 4 junior title holders and 1 transfusion physician. All six staff members hold bachelor’s degrees.

Functional rooms include blood grouping laboratory, cross-matching laboratory, blood issuing room and blood storage room. The department is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities: Johnson & Johnson automated blood grouping and cross-matching analyzer system, CFMS thromboelastography analyzer, low-temperature and ultra-low temperature refrigerators, automatic thermostatic shaking platelet storage device, dry plasma thawing instrument and clinical blood transfusion management system.

The department undertakes blood supply and transfusion safety management for the whole hospital. Its core services cover microcolumn gel blood grouping and cross-matching, Rh antigen typing, identification of rare blood groups, resolution of incompatible cross-matching, screening and identification of irregular antibodies, hemolytic disease of the newborn test and prenatal maternal antibody titer detection. To guarantee accurate test results, the department carries out regular internal quality control and participates in external quality assessment programs organized by the National Health Commission and Guangdong Province every year, achieving excellent results consistently to ensure reliable laboratory outcomes. In strict compliance with the Measures for the Administration of Clinical Blood Use in Medical Institutions and the Technical Specifications for Clinical Blood Transfusion issued by the National Health Commission, the department provides guidance to clinical departments on rational and standardized use of blood and blood products.

Transfusion medicine is an emerging and evolving interdisciplinary specialty with broad development prospects. All staff of the Blood Transfusion Dept are dedicated to providing professional consultation services related to blood transfusion for clinical medical staff, patients and their families.
