On October 31, 2024, under the guidance of the Nursing Department, our hospital successfully completed the graduation assessment of clinical theories and practical skills for 19 newly recruited nurses of the 2022 standardized training program. Covering basic nursing theories and operational skills, the assessment comprehensively evaluated the nurses’ professional knowledge, technical proficiency, health education capability, humanistic care awareness and comprehensive competency.
The Nursing Department attached great importance to the assessment and held a special launching meeting. Elaborate arrangements were made for the whole process, including pre-assessment OSCE training and simulation drills for participating nurses, unified interpretation of assessment criteria, training for examiners and standardized patients, as well as venue preparation, process design, site layout and material deployment. During the assessment, multi-department coordination, on-site order maintenance and examination discipline supervision were strictly implemented. Post-assessment work such as score statistics was also well organized.
01 Theoretical Refinement — In-depth Integration of Knowledge and Skills
In the theoretical assessment session, tailored to the Nursing Department’s training plan and combined with clinical practice and theoretical teaching, the well-designed examination focused on practical effects and key knowledge, covering basic nursing knowledge, professional skills, core hospital systems, nursing quality indicators, nursing assessment and emergency response plans. It aimed to fully examine new nurses’ professional competency, emergency handling ability, communication skills and humanistic care literacy. All participating nurses concentrated fully in the exam and strived to demonstrate the knowledge they had acquired during standardized training. Invigilators maintained a rigorous and earnest attitude to ensure a standardized and fair assessment process.
02 Skills Review — Patient-Centered Practical Exploration
Centering on the patient-centered philosophy, the station-based OSCE assessment adopted a comprehensive evaluation model integrating real case analysis, operational skills and standardized patients. Multiple assessment stations were set up for nursing evaluation, scale assessment, nursing problem analysis and intervention formulation, operational skill examination and health education, highly restoring real clinical nursing scenarios. The examiners assessed the nurses’ critical thinking and professional capabilities from multiple dimensions including operational procedures, service quality, humanistic care and health education implementation.
The clinical practice ability assessment for standardized training nurses serves as both the guideline for standardized nursing training implementation and the benchmark for evaluating training quality.
This assessment fully inspected the implementation effect of the hospital’s standardized nurse training management. Taking this opportunity, our hospital will conduct in-depth analysis and summary of every assessment detail, continuously optimize the standardized training system, and cultivate a team of nurses with solid professional skills and comprehensive literacy. It will continuously inject new vitality into clinical nursing work and provide safer, more professional and high-quality nursing services for patients.
