To reduce the number of induced abortions due to unintended pregnancy and the repeat abortion rate, especially repeat abortions within one year after a previous miscarriage, the China Women's Development Foundation, Family Planning Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and National Institute of Scientific and Technical Research on Health jointly launched the public welfare project "Yi Care・Post-Abortion Care (PAC)". The project aims to establish standardized high-quality PAC service models in medical institutions nationwide, standardize post-abortion service procedures, provide scientific contraception education and consultation for women after abortion, promote the use of effective contraceptive methods, reduce repeat abortions, and improve the reproductive health of women of childbearing age.
On the morning of January 26, a panel of experts from the Yi Care Fund Management Committee of the China Women's Development Foundation visited our hospital for the on-site assessment for the National PAC Long-Acting Contraception Advanced Training Hospital qualification.
President Zhang and directors of relevant departments attended the assessment. Chen Guangyuan, Director of the Gynecology Department, delivered a detailed report on the implementation, outcomes and work plans of the PAC project.
The experts conducted on-site inspections of the PAC group education room, one-on-one consultation room, family planning operating room and family planning clinic. They gained a full understanding of service workflows and follow-up mechanisms, communicated with department physicians and nurses to learn about daily PAC operations including one-on-one consultation, pre-operation group education for patients and their families, and the post-abortion follow-up information system. The panel fully recognized the standardized and digital PAC development achievements accumulated by our hospital over the past nine years, and put forward constructive optimization suggestions to guide the sustainable sound development of our PAC services.
During the briefing, President Zhang stated that the hospital would further refine service details and optimize workflows, and carry out targeted staff training in accordance with project standards. The hospital strives to achieve full coverage of contraception consultation services, empower women to make independent informed decisions on fertility, improve health literacy and safeguard their reproductive health.
The experts highly recognized the exemplary role and social influence of our hospital’s PAC program. They advised integrating institutional rules, service workflows and staff training into PAC management, refining data collection and analysis, extending services to both outpatient and inpatients, giving full play to the functions of the family planning clinic, continuously expanding social outreach and developing distinctive PAC service features.
Our hospital officially launched the PAC project in May 2020, and passed the preliminary review of Yi Care Fund PAC service construction in 2020. From 2021 to 2022, our hospital was designated as a PAC Education Service Hospital under the Yi Care Fund. The hospital regularly carries out community outreach to disseminate health and contraception knowledge to women, minimize physical harm from induced abortions and surgical complications caused by unintended pregnancy, and effectively protect the fertility of women of childbearing age.
