The Obstetrics Department of Shenzhen Bao’an People’s Hospital, established in 1984, serves as the center for treating critically ill pregnant and parturient women in Bao’an District. It also handles “red-risk” pregnancies (complicated by severe medical and surgical diseases) in at the district level. As a key specialty at the hospital level, the department is responsible for prenatal care, consultations, referrals, and treatment of critically ill pregnant and parturient women across the district.

Located in the outpatient building, the department includes the Obstetrics Clinic on the 4th floor, the Delivery Room on the 10th floor, Obstetrics Ward 1 on the 11th floor, and the Baby-Friendly Zone on the 12th floor. The department has over 60 staff, including 16 doctors: 3 chief physicians, 8 associate chief physicians, 2 PhDs, and 3 master’s holders. All doctors have received standardized obstetrics training. Leveraging the strong comprehensive strength of Shenzhen Bao’an People’s Hospital, the Obstetrics Department opens an internal green channel for critically ill pregnant and parturient women, offering efficient, convenient, and optimal treatment pathways and solutions. Under the leadership of Director Fu Qingmei, the department has extensive experience in managing conditions such as refractory postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, dangerous perilous placenta previa with placenta accreta, amniotic fluid embolism, severe pancreatitis, acute fatty liver of pregnancy, pregnancy complicated by severe medical and surgical diseases, various types of heart disease complicated by heart failure, acute abdominal conditions, hematological disorders, rheumatic and immune diseases complicated by pregnancy, and diabetes complicated by pregnancy. The department has had no maternal disabilities or deaths for 15 years, significantly reducing maternal and perinatal mortality in Shenzhen and Bao’an District.

The department delivers nearly 3,000 babies annually and handles over 50,000 outpatient visits, with numbers showing a year-on-year increase. It is dedicated to providing a “Warm Obstetrics” environment with a full range of attentive services for expectant mothers: during pregnancy, services include prenatal care, pregnant women’s schools, remote fetal monitoring, childbirth simulations, case management, high-risk pregnancy management, diabetes nutrition clinics, perineal massage clinics, and other humanistic care. During childbirth, the department provides one-on-one delivery care, family accompaniment in the delivery room, labor in a free position, painless childbirth, as well as services such as doula support, non-invasive delivery, delayed cord clamping, and early skin-to-skin contact. Postpartum care includes traditional Chinese medicine technologies, including ear seed pressing, foot soaking, manual breast milk expression, at-home lactation assistance, pelvic floor exercise, rapid postpartum recovery, follow-up management, and breastfeeding clinics.

To meet the diverse needs of pregnant and postpartum women, the department has established 16 special care units, equipped with fully automatic multi-functional beds, independent fetal monitoring and electrocardiographic monitoring equipment, high-quality leather sofas, central heating and cooling systems, LCD TVs, refrigerators, and more. This provides a new model of comprehensive medical and nursing care, allowing mothers to truly feel the warmth of home. The department advocates for personalized management and single-room services, fully respecting the privacy of pregnant and postpartum women, and ensuring a comfortable and safe recovery environment for both mothers and newborns.

In addition to clinical and research duties, the department provides teaching at Southern Medical University, Guangdong Medical University, and others, and participates in multiple municipal and district-level research projects.

The Obstetrics Department is open daily, providing dedicated health services to the public.
