The Medical Oncology Department of Shenzhen Bao'an People's Hospital was established in 1998. Currently, it offers 46 beds and boasts a team consisting of 4 senior-level professionals, 4 mid-level professionals, 1 PhD holder, and 8 master's degree holders. The department serves as a subordinate collaborative unit of the Clinical Oncology Cooperative Group of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the Chemotherapy Committee of the Guangdong Anti-Cancer Association. In 2011, it was recognized as a "Pilot Hospital for Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Tumors in City- and County-level Hospitals" by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China. In 2014, it became a key medical discipline construction unit in Bao'an District. In 2023, it obtained the title of "The Third Batch of County-level Cancer Prevention and Treatment Centers in China". In Shenzhen, the department is one of the early oncology departments with the technical projects and expertise of a tertiary-grade A hospital. Since 2018, it has secured 4 scientific research projects and published over 10 papers, including 3 SCI papers with the highest impact factor of 6.384.

The Department of Medical Oncology has extensive clinical experience in chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and endocrine therapy for common tumors, especially lung cancer, breast cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, and gastrointestinal tumors. The department took the lead in establishing a day chemotherapy ward in Shenzhen. To further facilitate patients, an outpatient chemotherapy room was opened in June 2024. Additionally, the department carries out multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment cooperation (MDT) for tumors and standardized treatment of cancer pain. In January 2024, our hospital initiated a collaborative effort with the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University to jointly develop a disciplinary group for digestive system diseases, which has promoted the growth of the Department of Medical Oncology. A specialized group for digestive tract tumors was established, and under the guidance of the resident director dispatched by the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, patients are provided with higher-quality medical services.

In the future, relying on Southern Medical University and Shenzhen University, the department is committed to becoming the largest and most academically robust oncology base in Bao'an District, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and prevention. It will undertake the significant responsibility of preventing and treating cancer patients in Bao'an District, Shenzhen, and extend its influence to surrounding areas, including Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, for cancer prevention and treatment efforts.
