The Infectious Diseases (Hepatology) Department of Shenzhen Bao’an District People’s Hospital was founded in 1984 and became an independent department in 1994. It is one of the earliest specialties to set up an independent infectious disease ward in Shenzhen’s comprehensive tertiary hospitals. After nearly 40 years of development, the department has grown into a leading infectious disease specialty in western Shenzhen and has a significant influence within the city. At present, the department includes wards for infectious and liver diseases (with negative pressure wards), liver disease clinics, fever clinics, and diarrhea clinics. The department operates 33 bed, handles approximately 35,000 outpatient visits for liver disease annually, and admits over 1,000 inpatients each year. Besides providing clinical treatment for infectious diseases, the department is also responsible for medical teaching, scientific research, and the diagnosis and treatment of newly emerging and challenging infectious diseases.
Members:The department comprises 10 infectious disease physicians and 14 nursing staff. This team includes 2 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 2 resident physicians. Among them are 2 MDs, 7 with Master's degrees, and 1 Master’s supervisor.
Medical Care Service: The department covers a wide range of liver and infectious diseases. The sub-specialty of liver disease includes the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic viral hepatitis, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, drug-induced liver injury, autoimmune liver disease, genetic metabolic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. The sub-specialty of infectious disease includes fever of undetermined origin (FUO), bacterial infections, fungal infections, parasitic infections, and tuberculosis. In addition, the department provides consultation and guidance on the clinical use of antibiotics. It also fullfils public health responsibilities for preventing and controlling respiratory tract infections, intestinal infections, and insect-borne diseases.
The department is responsible for clinical teaching, training undergraduate medical students, and offering graduate programs in infectious diseases. Collaborating with Southern Medical University, Guangdong Medical University, and Shenzhen University School of Medicine, the department plays a vital role in cultivating talent. It has also actively engaged in scientific research, securing over 10 provincial, municipal, and district-level research projects.
