The Endocrinology Department of Shenzhen Bao'an People's Hospital is a National Standardized Metabolic Disease Management Center unit and a sub-center for hyperuricemia and gout management under the Asia-Pacific Gout Alliance in China. It is also a key medical specialty in Bao'an District.

The department currently has 8 chief and associate chief physicians, 2 PhD/Master's supervisors, 3 staff with doctoral degrees, 7 with master's degrees, 2 associate chief nurses, 4 specialized diabetes nurses, 1 wound ostomy nurse, and 1 diabetes education nurse.

The department is organized into subspecialty groups and outpatient clinics for diabetes, hyperuricemia, obesity, thyroid disorders, pituitary and adrenal diseases, and adolescent growth and development. Equipped with a comprehensive diabetes complication screening system, it offers one-stop diabetes diagnosis, treatment, and long-term standardized management.

Key services include:

• Short-term intensive insulin therapy for newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes to achieve long-term clinical remission.

• Extensive clinical experience in managing diabetes-related complications and gestational diabetes.

• An information-based diabetes management platform for integrated in-hospital and out-of-hospital blood sugar management, providing patients with long-term dietary and exercise education, standardized screening and evaluation, and individualized treatment guidance.

For hyperuricemia, precise assessments are conducted to determine causes, and individualized treatments are provided to effectively prevent gout attacks and adverse metabolic, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and renal outcomes caused by high uric acid levels.

The department excels in advanced thyroid care, including ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration, differentiation of benign and malignant small thyroid nodules, and sclerotherapy for thyroid cysts, all of which are leading practices in Shenzhen. It is advancing techniques such as microwave ablation for benign thyroid nodules and hyperthyroidism and has pioneered adrenal vein sampling (AVS) for the differential diagnosis of primary aldosteronism.

The department promotes multidisciplinary disease management, achieving integrated diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for endocrine tumors. It collaborates with the Nutrition and Sports Medicine Departments to provide scientific weight loss programs. Growth and development evaluations are conducted for children and adolescents with advanced bone age, enabling early individualized interventions to help them achieve optimal adult height.

It also specializes in the differential diagnosis, standardized treatment, and long-term management of calcium-phosphorus metabolism disorders and osteoporosis, preventing fractures and safeguarding bone health for patients.
