Established in 1984, Shenzhen Bao'an People's Hospital is also known as the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University and the 8th People's Hospital of Shenzhen. After 27 years of development, the hospital has attained National 3A Hospital Accreditation in 2011. It has now firmly established itself as a comprehensive medical center integrating emergency care, medical treatment, rehabilitation, teaching, scientific research and public health of the western region of Shenzhen. The hospital has also been honored with several awards, including “National Top 100 Hospitals”, “National Youth Civilization Unit”, “Advanced Collective of National Health System”, “Advanced Unit in National Health Cultural Progress”, “Advanced Collective in National Health System Professional Ethics” and “Advanced Unit in National Health System Ideological and Political Work”, etc.
The hospital has a total floor area of 140,000 square meters situated on 53,000 square meters of land. With 1,177 beds currently in operation, the Hospital has already commenced its second-phase expansion project which will be partial commissioning in 2024. The project will increase the land to 660,000 square meters and the total bed complement to 3300 beds in accordance with government planning at a total capital cost of 60 billion RMB.
As of April 2024, the hospital has 2,653 staffs (2104 medical professionals), and of those, 627 have master’s, doctoral degrees (or post-doctoral experience), 2 have been entitled to become supervisors of doctoral students, 1 is recognized as “Local-Level Talent Professional” in Shenzhen, 4 are recognized as “Overseas High-Caliber Personnel (Level C)” of Shenzhen. With the application of flexible employment policy, the hospital has recruited 120 Distinguished Visiting Professors from domestic and overseas universities. It has 3 committee chairman/vice chairman of national academic societies, 28 committee chairman/vice chairman of provincial academic societies and 51 committee chairman /vice chairman of municipal academic societies.
The hospital has 45 clinical departments, 16 medical technical departments, and 19 community health service centers. It has set up an integrated system of multiple disciplines including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, otorhinolaryngology and medical technologies. The hospital has 2 provincial key disciplines (Emergency Medicine & Clinical Nursing), 1 municipal key discipline (Emergency Medicine), 1 municipal traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) specialty (TCM Geriatrics), 1 municipal TCM & western medicine flagship specialty (TCM Geriatrics) and 9 district key disciplines (Emergency Medicine, Traumatology, Nephrology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Endocrinology, Urology, Critical Care Medicine, General Surgery, and Spinal Surgery). Nowadays, the hospital has established 5 emergency care centers: Chest Pain Center (CPC), Trauma Center (TC), Stroke Center (SC), Maternal Near Miss Care Center (MNMCC), and Care Center for Severe Children and Neonatal (CCSN). CPC and SC have passed the certification of Chinese Chest Pain Centers and Chinese National Stroke Center, separately. TC has passed the on-site review of the Guangdong Provincial Trauma Center Construction Unit.
The hospital has successively recruited five high-level academic teams with the support of "Sanming Project of Medicine in Shenzhen" (famous hospitals, famous doctors, and famous teams), including the trauma team leading by Academician Fu Xiaobing(Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital), the rehabilitation team leading by Professor Chen Lidian (Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine), the emergency medicine team leading by Professor Yu Xuezhong (Peking Union Medical College Hospital), the team leading by Professor Chen Jiyan(Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases), and the team from the Brain Research Institute of the University of Queensland, Australia. Leveraging on the project and the high-level teams, the hospital consistently launches new technologies and projects, to advance and promote its capability in treating severe and critical diseases.
The hospital holds a great reputation in the integration of medical service, medical education and research. In 1998, it was successfully selected as high education medical teaching hospital of Guangdong Province. It became the postdoctoral innovation practice base of Shenzhen in 2015, and became the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University in 2018. It has established 8 teaching and research sections including internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics, emergency medicine, general practice, stomatology, and anesthesiology, as well as 35 clinical teaching groups.
In the process of establishing a regional medical center and community health construction, the hospital consistently innovates an integration plus coordination service model. It has built a 5G Wise Information Medical Service System supported by the internet hospital (IH) platform and nine "Intelligent Medical Service Centers". Innovative projects such as IH based nursing, homey wards and medical services at home are well received by the local population and the served community.
Through forty years development, new chapters continue to be written.
