
Shenzhen Bao'an Women’s and Children’s Hospital, established in 1986, is a top-tier Class III Grade A hospital dedicated to medical services, education, research, prevention, and healthcare for women and children.
Located in the picturesque Qianhai Bao'an Central District of Shenzhen, the hospital enjoys a prime location surrounded by a rich tapestry of cultural, commercial, and artistic elements, complemented by comprehensive supporting facilities. The hospital spans nearly 40,000 square meters with a construction area of 100,000 square meters, currently offering 830 beds. It boasts a team of over 300 senior medical professionals and nearly 500 staff with doctors and masters degrees, including 5 doctoral supervisors and 27 master's supervisors. The hospital has an average of 2 million outpatient and emergency visits annually, with about 58,000 discharges. It records 18,000 to 21,000 live births each year, leading the city in delivery volume for five consecutive years. Since its relocation, 150,000 babies have been born here. The hospital has consistently ensured maternal and infant safety, earning national and provincial commendations for high-quality maternal and child health services.
The hospital features one national pre-pregnancy healthcare specialty, one provincial key specialty, one provincial medical engineering research center, two provincial healthcare specialties, three municipal key specialties, one municipal high-level medical team, and five district-level key specialties. It has established the Bao'an Maternal-Fetal Medicine Research Institute in collaboration with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and maintains long-term partnerships with prestigious institutions such as the ProMedica(US), Shanghai Children's Medical Center, Peking University Third Hospital, and Beijing Bayi Children's Hospital. It co-established the Shenzhen branch of the Shanghai Children's Medical Center. In September 2024, it collaborated with The Chinese University of Hong Kong to establish the CUHK Institute of Excellence in Child Health - Women and Children's Medical Center (Shenzhen). The hospital is designated by the Provincial Health Commission as a specified medical institution for the "Hong Kong and Macao Medicine and Medical Devices Access" policy.
In recent years, Bao'an Women’s and Children’s Hospital has achieved remarkable success in various fields, being recognized as a national base for birth defect intervention and rescue and a national pilot unit for scientific parenting. It was honored as the first "Smart Women’s and Children’s Hospital Model Unit" in China, achieving a Level 5B rating in national healthcare information interoperability standardization maturity and Level 5 in the national electronic medical record rating. It was also named a national pilot hospital for "Innovative Mechanisms in Women’s and Children’s Health Institutions." From 2020 to 2022, it ranked first in the national performance assessment of district and county-level women and children’s hospitals, consistently leading in the performance evaluation of national tertiary women and children’s hospitals.
In terms of discipline development, in 2023, the hospital's maternal-fetal research team published in the top international journal "Cell" as the first co-corresponding unit, with its scientific achievements winning a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva and being cited in the international guidelines of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Additionally, the latest research findings in maternal-fetal studies are under review by "Nature Communications." Furthermore, the research team on the prevention of mother-to-child disease transmission has published their findings in the authoritative international journal "Nature Medicine." Their comprehensive prevention and control system for hepatitis B mother-to-child transmission, spanning interdisciplinary and inter-community clinical management, has been praised by the World Health Organization for accelerating mother-to-child transmission prevention efforts in China and globally.
In August 2025, the construction of Bao'an Children's Hospital, adjacent to the current hospital site, will be completed, offering a total of 1,500 beds and a construction area of nearly 210,000 square meters. It will serve as a comprehensive medical, research, educational, preventive, and rehabilitative center for women and children, achieving efficient management of "one hospital, two campuses" and establishing itself as a "Bay Area Women and Children's Medical Health City" based in Shenzhen and facing the international community.
