The Department of Ultrasound Medicine of Shenzhen Bao'an Women's and Children's Hospital was officially established in 2009.The department has a total of 56 staff members, including 2 Chief Physicians, 13 Associate Chief Physicians, 1 Associate Chief Nurse, 23 Attending Physicians, 8 Physicians and 9 Physician Assistants. Among them, 1 is a Master Supervisor and 17 hold master’s degrees.
The hospital was approved as a Provincial Prenatal Diagnosis Center in 2012. As the fourth qualified hospital for prenatal diagnosis in Shenzhen and the only one in Bao’an District, the department’s prenatal ultrasound screening plays a vital role in prenatal diagnosis.In the past three years, the examination volumes of first-trimester NT screening, Grade Ⅲ prenatal ultrasound screening, pelvic floor ultrasound, gynecological ultrasound and pediatric ultrasound performed by the department have ranked first in Bao’an District and among the top in Shenzhen.The daily examination volume reaches 1,300–1,600 cases, with about 480,000 examinations completed in 2021. A number of prenatal screening patients come from outside the district and the city.
The department attaches importance to academic cooperation with renowned experts and prestigious medical institutions. Since 2009, it has continuously invited nationally distinguished ultrasound experts as visiting professors to guide clinical work, including Professor Li Shengli from Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital Affiliated to Southern Medical University, Professor Xie Hongning from The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and Professor Zhang Yuqi from Shanghai Children’s Medical Center Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University.In 2017, the department formally established clinical and research cooperation with the Fetal Medicine Centre of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, introducing advanced domestic and international concepts and experience in clinical practice, teaching and management, so as to further elevate its capacity in clinical services, scientific research and teaching.
It has successfully hosted annual continuing medical education programs for twelve consecutive years, including 5 national-level and 4 provincial-level sessions. The conference themes closely follow clinical hot topics and focus on tackling difficult clinical issues, ranging from Ultrasound Diagnosis of Fetal and Neonatal Digestive System Developmental Anomalies to Ultrasound Diagnosis of Fetal and Neonatal Cardiovascular Developmental Anomalies. The events attract extensive participation and academic exchanges, becoming a benchmark continuing education program of the hospital.
Equipped with advanced facilities, the department owns 36 internationally high-end color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic instruments, including multiple GE series models such as Voluson E10, E8, Vivid E95, Vivid E9, Logiq E11, Logiq E9 and ABUS automated breast full-volume 3D ultrasound system, as well as Philips series devices including EPIQ CVx, IE33 and IU Elite.In recent years, the department has obtained 17 municipal and district-level research projects and participated in 1 emergency project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2017.
The department is a National Collaborative Base for Standardized Residency Training in Ultrasound Medicine, a Women’s Civilization Post of Shenzhen and Bao’an District, a member of the Medical Ultrasound Innovative Technology Research Consortium, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Ultrasound Alliance, the Shenzhen Ultrasound Medical Specialty Alliance, and a national cooperative unit for multi-center research on intelligent obstetric and gynecological ultrasound.
The department has initially built specialized subspecialty groups: obstetric ultrasound, gynecological ultrasound, pediatric ultrasound, cardiovascular ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound, superficial organ ultrasound and interventional ultrasound.
Major services include routine ultrasound diagnosis covering obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, abdomen, heart, superficial organs, neonatal cranium and blood vessels; contrast-enhanced ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound, pelvic floor ultrasound, intraoperative ultrasound, as well as interventional ultrasound diagnosis and treatment.
Featured specialties cover first-trimester and second-trimester fetal malformation screening, dedicated fetal echocardiography, pediatric cardiac ultrasound, pediatric gastrointestinal ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided hydrostatic enema reduction for intussusception), pediatric hip joint ultrasound and pediatric lung ultrasound.
