The Neonatal Dept of our hospital is a Guangdong Provincial Specialty in Neonatal Healthcare, a Shenzhen Municipal and Bao'an District Critical Care Center for Neonatal Emergencies, and a Bao'an District Key Medical Specialty. The department currently operates 4 wards with 163 beds.

Dr. Zhang received master's degree from Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and doctoral degree from the Epilepsy Hospital of the University of Bonn, Germany. Dr. Zhang is a doctoral supervisor at Jinan University and formerly served as Director of the Neonatal Dept at Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center. Dr. Zhang was recruited by the Shenzhen Bao'an District Government in 2017 as a High-Level Healthcare Talent.
The department has 152 medical and nursing staff. The annual number of inpatient discharges is approximately 10,000, with a total outpatient volume of approximately 54,000 visits. The department has successfully treated a wide range of complex and critical conditions, including persistent pulmonary hypertension, severe asphyxia, multiple organ failure, and severe shock. Approximately 150 very low birth weight premature infants are discharged annually. The smallest extremely premature infant successfully treated and achieving good outcomes weighed 530 g at birth. The department has a high cure rate for acute critical illnesses, consistently ranking among the top in Shenzhen. In collaboration with the Neonatal Surgery Dept and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Dept, the department has successfully managed perioperative care for complex congenital heart disease, congenital digestive and urinary tract malformations, and neonatal digestive system diseases, with a total of 62 cases in 2020.
In 2019, the department joined the globally renowned Vermont Oxford Network (VON). The department also carries out a number of new technologies at the national, provincial, and municipal levels, including: continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for premature infants, neonatal fiberoptic bronchoscopy, neonatal NAVA (neurally adjusted ventilatory assist) mechanical ventilation, and colostrum microfeeding for premature infants. The Neonatal Dept is home to Shenzhen's first public breast milk bank. The department participated in the development of China's first Breast Milk Bank Standard Operating Procedure(chaired by the Chinese Nutrition Society), which was also published as a monograph by People's Medical Publishing House.
