Pathology Dept was initially established as a pathology unit under the Clinical Laboratory in 1998, and officially became an independent department in August 2011.

Department Layout

The department consists of specimen reception room, gross sampling and specimen storage room, frozen section preparation room, cytology preparation room, embedding room, staining room, sectioning room, immunohistochemistry and special staining room, pathology archive room, storage room, shower room, hazardous chemicals room, pathology diagnosis office, teleconsultation room, multi-person collective reading room, director’s office, technician office, conference room, male lounge and female lounge. The layout features clear zoning of contaminated area, semi-contaminated area and clean area.

Pathology Equipment

The department is equipped with complete professional facilities, including Leica semi-automatic paraffin microtome, Roche fully automatic immunohistochemistry stainer, Leica frozen microtome, Leica fully automatic tissue processor, Leica integrated automatic staining and coverslipping machine, tissue embedding machine, smear maker, fume hood, digital pathology system, report image analysis system, cassette printer, slide printer, refrigerators, disposable blades, constant temperature incubator, drying oven, air conditioning and exhaust system.

Professional Team

The department has 11 staff members in total: 1 chief senior professional title, 2 associate senior professional titles, 1 attending physician, 1 pathologist, 2 chief medical technologists, 1 medical technologist, 2 medical assistants (technicians) and 1 medical guide. Among them, 7 hold master’s degrees, 2 bachelor’s degrees and 2 college diplomas.

All pathologists are licensed medical practitioners and have received standardized professional training. There are 4 pathology technicians, all with medical academic background, receiving continuing medical education and professional pathological technical training, and holding professional qualification certificates. They are responsible for cytological smears, frozen sections, paraffin sections and immunohistochemical slide preparation.

Professional assessments are regularly arranged for technical staff. Only those assessed and approved by the medical technical panel can be reviewed and authorized by the Medical Affairs Department to engage in independent technical operations. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed to perform operations independently or beyond their scope. Re-assessment and re-authorization are conducted every two years.
