She became one of the five awardees across the Asia-Pacific region and the only winner from China.

The Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (ASPIRE) is an academic organization dedicated to advancing reproductive medicine in the Asia-Pacific region. The ASPIRE Annual Meeting has become a key platform for countries in the region to exchange and share knowledge in fertility and reproductive medicine.

The theme of this year’s conference is Welcome Back to Our Future. Focusing on cutting-edge advances in basic reproductive science, embryology and clinical reproductive medicine, the conference aims to help medical professionals in the Asia-Pacific region stay updated with frontier progress, learn skills and techniques from industry leaders and experts, and improve clinical practice.
Established in 2024, the Asia-Pacific Young Scholar Award in Reproductive Medicine is a prestigious honor at the ASPIRE conference with wide influence in reproductive medicine research. It is awarded to outstanding young researchers under 40 years old in the Asia-Pacific region who have made remarkable contributions to innovative research in basic reproductive science, embryology and clinical reproductive medicine. Each year, thousands of outstanding young reproductive medicine professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region compete for the award, with only five recipients selected annually.

Recently, a research study with Dr. Chen Xiaoyan as co-first author was published in Cell, one of the world’s top academic journals. To date, Dr. Chen has published more than 40 academic papers, including over 20 as first author/corresponding author (co-contributor) in leading journals such as Cell and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has presided over 11 national, provincial and municipal research projects, and won the Silver Medal at the 2022 Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. Dr. Chen currently serves as Associate Editor of Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, editorial board member of BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth and Chinese Journal of Family Planning & Gynecology, and reviewer for journals including Fertility and Sterility.

Maternal-fetal medicine is one of the most important and cutting-edge fields in medical research worldwide. In November 2017, Shenzhen Bao'an Women's and Children's Hospital established the Bao’an Maternal-Fetal Medicine Institute through in-depth cooperation with The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The institute is committed to integrating clinical practice and scientific research, enhancing comprehensive disciplinary strength, strengthening scientific innovation, and improving services for pregnant and parenting people in western Shenzhen. Over the past five years, the institute has been awarded 12 national research grants in maternal-fetal medicine and published more than 50 SCI-indexed papers.
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Institute aims to build a clinical research support system and strengthen scientific innovation. By making full use of the hospital’s rich maternal and child clinical resources, the institute focuses on cutting-edge medical research, targeting critical scientific issues in the diagnosis and treatment of major, severe and common diseases affecting women and children, and developing key technologies. In addition, supported by big data and machine learning, the institute is building a patient-centered research database and disease repository.

Congratulations again to Dr. Chen Xiaoyan on this achievement. Moving forward, Shenzhen Bao'an Women's and Children's Hospital will continue to support and encourage outstanding young researchers, and make greater contributions to innovation and development in the field of life and health.
